Hello to you all, ive recently got back into lego because my son is now into it, so i got all my old sets out of the attic for him to enjoy, and he seems very interested in my old 12volt trains.
Now I really enjoyed the trains when I first had them 30 so years ago but the old 12volt stuff doesn't exist any more only on E'bay, my thoughts are if I was to swich to the new radio controlled sets where would I buy the controller and motors from and how much would they be? plus will they still fit in the 12volt trains?.
I look forward to your replies. Thanks Gareth.

Hello Gareth. Welcome back to Lego trains, and welcome to the forum!

Yes, the 12v sets have been long gone, and are only available online. The new RC sets cost around $125-$150 each IIRC, and you cannot buy the controller and motors by themselves from Lego at this time. If by "fit" you mean "Will they run on the same track as the 12v trains?" then yes. If by "fit" you mean "can I install them on my old 12v trains?" then you may have to do some creative building, but I'm sure it can be done.

I take it you don't know about bricklink.com. Whenever I go to the Lego store and they don't have parts I'm looking for, the employees even recommend it to me (although I've known about it for years). You can find just about any part, set, instructions, or other Lego-related item on this website. Users set up "stores" with a complete list of all the parts they sell. Sometimes they're cheap, sometimes they are not. If you want more 12v parts, its a good place to go, and you can also find the RC parts by themselves on that site.

Hope that helps!

Controllers motors etc can be purchased from LEGO.
They are listed under Power Functions.
These are the things that are needed to use the Power Function motor, IR received , Controller and Battery used to power the Emerald Express.

To help keep this site up and running, log in and use the Shop LEGO place in the upper right side of the opening screen.
