I'm still waiting to get a final tally of what NELUG is hoping to display, once that happens I should have a basic idea of what the layouts dimensions will be. Should be a few weeks from now.

---

Before I start planing the NELUG layout, I want to see if anyone would be interested in doing a semi-combined layout. Semi, because to make things easier, I only want to combine the MOCs not the foundation items. The foundation items (track, baseplates, tables, roads, etc...) for a given section would all belong to a single club.

My first thought was just a small residential area. Each of us could bring some houses to create a little neighborhood. My second thought is a little more ambitious by doing a large semi-combined layout with a city, town, residential, industrial and rail yard areas.

If there is interest in doing a combined layout, what ever the size, I'm willing to design it I would just need to know how large a lot size you need for your buildings, which sides need street access and what style of building (city, town, residential etc...). Photos are (also helpful.

Just let me know if you want to try this idea.

Jonathan

I would be glad to participate in your collaboration. Please notify me on more details so I can get a better picture of the MOCs that are missing from the layout.

A paintball arena is one of the many creations I am willing to contribute for your layout. The arena fits in a 10 X 10 baseplate. However, I am willing to make it bigger or smaller depending on how much space you want it to fill. (Just one question, is using sharpies on bricks to construct paintball splatters considered a violation of the rules?)

I could also add things to the city area like stoplights, garbage cans, streetlights, minifigs, etc.

We recently discovered from the NMRA folks that you have to be 16 years or older to be on the show floor during setup. This basically means that anyone under 16 is only going to be allowed to bring something that can be quickly put in place Friday morning before the show opens.

With that said, there are a few empty spaces (or spaces with filler buildings) on the layout where you could display your MOCs. I won't be able to expand the layout to make any new space though since the layout has already been submitted to the NMRA folks (dimensions and borrowed tables required).

See the current layout for map coordinates.

There are two white spaces on the layout that we're being held for Matt from PennLUG. He has not yet confirmed so I'm willing to open up the larger ( 206 x 64 studs) of the two spaces (L5 - M5). Maybe your paint ball arena could go here (sharpies for splatters are fine as long as they stay on your bricks Wink )

The Rural section has a 32 wide by 64 deep space ( N8 ) for a house and back yard.

The City (4-5 or more stories tall buildings) has several spaces open. On the gap of G2 and H2, there is a 32 wide by 96 deep space. G1 has a 32 x 48 corner lot.

The town section (4 or less stories tall buildings) of the city has a few spaces as well. A 32 x 48 corner lot with a 32 x 32 across the street on H4. There is also a 32 x 32 space at E2 next to the tracks (labeled Jon)

The Ren Fair area should have room for several more MOCs. Currently Matt (NELUG) is the only one bringing castle MOCs for that area.

The Moonbase has space for three more modules.

The Carnival should have room for more powered rides or concession stands.

Photos of most of the MOCs that NELUG is bringing are in this gallery if you want to take a peak.

I have been busy with things other than Lego for the past month. I just hope there's enough table space left...

Paintball Arena

This is my first version and is subject to change depending on what people think of it.

Complete with towers and a computer box, this arena is perfect for a quick game.

Currently, I have red and black teams. If you guys want me to do a Red VS Blue battle for the convention I would be more than happy to make that happen.

Flying Adventure

This is a carnival ride I can contribute to the layout. It is motorized with power functions and
has some other curiosities as well. Because it is run by a remote control, I would like to ask permission to put remote on the edge so kids can make the ride run their way. The MOC fits a 10 x 10 baseplate and you can separate the two parts. (The ride and the platform.) They can be taken apart for convenience. However, the platform has a few bricks sticking out.

I also have a realistic drum set. Do you think a concert would be a good idea?

I am open to thoughts and criticism about my MOCs so I can improve on them.

You may not get to see the pictures right away because I just uploaded them last night.

Hi Brickmaniac508,

In my previous post I was slightly confused by the term 10x10 area. I've been working in baseplates for too long so I thought you needed a space that was 100 inches by 100 inches. oops.

So a standard 10 inch by 10 inch paint ball arena will fit fine on the layout. I think it would probably fit fine in the Carnival Area along with your other ride (haven't see it yet though).

If you want to bring the drum kit and a player, I'm sure we can find a place to display it. First thought I have is at one of the Train Stations trying to make a few bucks.

Do you you know when you'll be able to make it to the show?

Your MOCs seem pretty easy to place on the layout so we could even add them during show times (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) if that is easier than trying to make setup (Wednesday and Thursday)

I thought I'd share my concert too:

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=389657

I've had it for over a year now, this is the latest version (5.2?) and the first version to include ATA cases for ALL the equipment, not just the backline, and an opening act. Everything is fully lit and mic'd, even added a crowd control barrier around version 4.

I JUST uploaded this, so it might not be a public folder yet =X

Hi Folks,

Below is an updated image of the Layout for this show.

The carnival area is usually laid out during setup so I haven't shown anyone's MOCs in that area.

Jon, I can set up on Thursday night. I can create MANY more MOCs to display. Can you tell me how much space is open for the carnival section? I am also interested to know if anyone is bringing the new grand carousel, it would make a great addition to the layout. I am also working on a renaissance fair MOC that I could bring. Is there a Wild West section? A saloon would look great.

trainboy765, I love your concert. If you can bring it to the show, I would be interested in adding some of my music themed MOCs to the stage. My drum set could be up there, along with my Brickforge microphone on the lead singer. If you need any more minifigs added to the crowd, I would be more than happy to contribute some. Tell me if you like this idea.

Glad you enjoy it. I'd probably like the idea more if I was actually going to NMRA. I'm way too busy in July. I just wanted to share =3

Hi Brickmaniac508,

There should be plenty of space in the Carnival, but I'm not sure how many. We have 110 baseplates worth of space and I think NELUG usually uses around 60-70.

I also think it would be a great idea if someone could bring the carousel to the show.

There isn't a Wild West Themed space on the layout. We haven't had enough interest in that theme so far and it is a little late now.

Could we put the Western stuff near the river where the Civil War battle was going to be, or has that been claimed by someone?
